Ten sugarcane varieties/promising clones were evaluated for their ratooning potential at Sugarcane Research Institute, AARI, Faisalabad during 2001-2004. Standard practices of crop management. were adopted. The genotypes included were; S96-SP-571, S96-SP-574, S97-US-102, S98-SP-133, CPF-243, SB7-US-1873. HSF-240, AEC- 84-347, NSG-555 and NSG-60. All these genotypes behaved differently for quantitative and qualitative characters investigated. S87-US-1873 enhanced the number of sprouts i.e; 1.75 to 1.87 per plant during 2003 and 2004, respectively followed by HSF-240 (1.14 sprouts/plant). CPF-243 gave higher stripped cane yield but was statistically al par with HSF-240 during both the years. Genotype AEC-84-347 yielded minimum during both years (average stripped cane yield 52.38 t/ha). CPF-243 also excelled in mean sugar yield (12.78 t/ha) while AEC-84-347, ranked last (6.37 t/ha)
